As stated by Big 5 Sporting Goods in their POS Tech Refresh RFP; "our current POS registers and payment terminals have been in production for... years. Additionally, the PCI Data Security Standard has changed the security scope for these traditional point-of-sale units as well as encryption change requirements for all payment terminals by 2010."
In evaluating their partner options, Big 5 determined that the following 4 criteria were essential to the success of this project.

- Proved value added services, guarantees with extreme flexibility
- A single source to provide all requested services, including:
- Equipment receipt and inventory
- Staging and integration of all related equipment
- Configuration, burn-in and test
- Packing, asset tracking and delivery teach store
- On-site installation services
- De-installation, packing and asset management of decommissioned equipment.
- Overall project costs
